Band: Rio Reiser

Diese 16-CD-Box mit einer Gesamtlaufzeit von über 16 Stunden enthält weit über 350 Songs, die nahezu komplett bisher unveröffentlicht sind.

Sie ist der Fahrtenschreiber eines Lebens, das nur 46 Jahre währte (1950-96), aber mit dieser Veröffentlichung auf insgesamt rund 40 Alben zurückblickt. Die erste CD der Box enthält RIO REISERS allererste Songs, mit 14-15 Jahren noch in englisch getextet, und seine ersten deutschsprachigen Lieder von 1967/69. Auf der letzten CD der Box finden sich fast 20 bisher unveröffentlichte Songs aus den 1980er und 90er Jahren. Dazwischen werden alle seine Projekte für Theater und Film dokumentiert, zu denen es Tondokumente gibt.

Band: Alcest

Bei "Kodama" handelt es sich um das fünfte Album der Blackgaze-Pioniere Alcest. Das französische Duo feiert darauf eine furiose Rückkehr zum stilistischen Maximalismus der frühen Veröffentlichungen, ohne dabei das unermüdliche Streben nach neuen Klängen und unverbrauchten Ideen aufzugeben.

"Kodama" ist das japanische Wort für 'Baumgeist' und 'Echo', und mit seiner Struktur, Dynamik und dem Breitwandsound ist "Kodama" in der Tat eine Art Echo des 2010 erschienenen Alcest-Klassikers "Écailles de Lune". Allerdings handelt es sich hierbei um kein schlichtes Back-to-the-roots-Album: Die Band legt auf ihrem neuen Werk mehr Schlagkraft, Rhythmus und organisches Gespür an den Tag als je zuvor. Einerseits deutlich beeinflusst von Bands wie The Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Dinosaur Jr., Grimes und The Cure, offenbart "Kodama" sich andererseits als das 'japanische Album' von Alcest, da es entscheidend von der Kunst und Kultur Japans inspiriert ist.

Let's be real: What's really left to say about NOFX? For over thirty years the reigning kings of punk rock have remained relevant by continuing to push the boundaries of their music, lyrics and good taste in a way that's as endearing as it is infectious. For that reason it's remarkably apt that the band's latest LP First-Ditch Effort is also their thirteenth because ominous black clouds hang over this collection of songs that see frontman/bassist Fat Mike exploring self-loathing and mortality in a more raw and honest way than he ever has before. Mike credits much of this to the writing process behind NOFX: The Hepatitis Bathtub And Other Stories, the band's New York Times Bestselling memoir that forced him to confront his ghosts and revisit his past in ways that weren't always comfortable.

“This album is more personal than anything I've ever done before because once we put everything out there in the book it opened all of these doors are far as what I want to sing about” Fat Mike explains. However this wouldn't sound like a NOFX album without powerful performances from guitarists Eric Melvin and El Hefe as well as drummer, Smelly. In that spirit this album also marks the first time that Melvin helped write songs and his contributions to “It Ain't So Lonely At The Bottom” and “I Don't Like Me Anymore” as well as his signature vocals on the opener “Six Years On Dope” add a visceral impact to these songs that will surprise even the band's most hardcore fans. “It's like you don't expect it, what the fuck?” Mike says of the aforementioned opener. “That song reminds me of the Angry Samoans meeting the Bronx and I don't think there's anything that sounds like it.”

Band: Frank Iero and The Patience

Der ehemalige My Chemical Romance-Gitarrist Frank Iero wird nach seinem Solodebüt "Stomachaches" von 2014 am 28.10. 2016 sein neues Album "Parachutes“ auf Hassle Records veröffentlichen.

FRANK IERO and the PATIENCE are set to release their second album 'Parachutes' on 28th October via Hassle Records. The record was produced by the legendary team that is Ross Robinson & Steve Evetts in California earlier this year. "It's a team that had been on my mind for a while. I heard stories about Ross that scared me to death... but honestly nothing could have prepared me for the reality of what it is like to work with him" says singer Frank Iero. "It was the most heartbreaking yet uplifting, depleting yet inspiring experience I have ever had. I found out things about myself and the songs I was writing that changed me forever. I am so proud of this record, it really took everything I had, and I know I could not have made it with anyone else."

As with any new album, the band has a chance to grow and evolve into something else, to challenge all perceptions and become a new version of what it once was, and as such comes a name change- FRANK IERO and the PATIENCE. "When I first started this journey I brought a band along that filled in the gaps of what I lacked. I was uncomfortable in my position so I brought a celebration or a cellabration to distract from my awkwardness. Now in my life I need to learn how to slow down and love where I am. I need the patience to appreciate the now." says Frank Iero.

Band: Gillian Welch

Album: BOOTS NO 1: THE OFFICIAL REVIVIAL BOOTLEG

Gillian Welch’s groundbreaking album Revival was released twenty years ago. To commemorate the anniversary, Welch’s own Acony Records will release Boots No 1: The Official Revival Bootleg on November 25th. Personally curated and produced by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, they worked alongside archivist Glen Chausse to mine selections from their extensive vault of analog tape recordings. The two-disc set will feature 8 previously unreleased songs, and include 21 outtakes, alternate versions, and demos from the making of the album such as the earliest home demo of “Orphan Girl” which was recorded on a four track and the rarity “Georgia Road,” a song that was only performed live once. Revival was Grammy nominated and was highly praised by critics worldwide including The Los Angeles Times who claimed, “...At every turn she demonstrates a spark and commitment that should endear her to anyone, from country and folk to adult pop and rock fan, who appreciates imagination and heart,” Paste Magazine who named Revival the 3rd “Best Alt Country Album of All Time,” and Entertainment Weekly praised, “...winsomely authentic...[Revival] gets an early lead on debut-of-the-year honors.”

Dass Musik und Liebe offenbar jung halten, ist zwar ein fürchterliches Klischee; STOPPOK aber ist dafür der beste Beweis. Er wirkt nicht nur 15 Jahre jünger – je länger man mit ihm spricht, umso deutlicher wird, dass da einer die Erfahrung von vier Jahrzehnten Musikmachen auf wunderbare Weise vermählt mit der Begeisterung eines Musikers, der noch lange nicht auserzählt hat. Dem seine Songs genauso unter den Nägeln brennen, als wenn er gerade sein Debütalbum veröffentlichen würde. Und der sich selbst auf seinem 17. Studioalbum ein Stück weit neu erfinden kann, ohne krampfhaft oder überambitioniert auf Neuanfang zu setzen.

Dieses Album hört auf den Namen "Operation 17“. Ein treffender Titel, denn operieren kann nur, wer sein Handwerk versteht; gleichzeitig ist jede Operation anders, neu, mit besonderen Herausforderungen gesegnet. STOPPOK hat da seinen ganz eigenen Flow, den er wie folgt beschreibt: "Ich habe einen eigenen Weg gefunden, in dem vorhandenen System mein eigenes System aufzubauen. Also Platten zu veröffentlichen, die man sonst mit irgendwelchen Companies und großen Teams rausbringt, Promotion macht, Vorschüsse abdealt und so weiter. Fast zweieinhalb Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung seines überaus erfolgreichen Albums ‘Promises Of No Man’s Land’, kündigt Blaudzun sein neues, fünftes Album an. ‘Jupiter’ erscheint bei Glitterhouse Records am 07. Oktober und ist der erste von drei Teilen eines Tryptichons: “My new album is a tryptich; a collection of songs released in three separate parts. These parts will be recorded at different times and studios. It’s really a work in progress, and that’s how it’ll stay until the final part has been released. Part I is now finished, but parts II and III are still in the works” so Blaudzun.

Teil I, der den kürzlich veröffentlichten Titeltrack des Albums enthält, ist eine LP mit 9 Songs. Blaudzun nahm das Album live im Studio zusammen mit alten und neuen Bandmitgliedern auf, um einen frischen Sound zu produzieren: "It's hard to capture the sound of these new songs in a few words; I'd say it's flippant and frivolous, quite flighty and sweltering. I consider it my sexiest album so far."

Der zweite Teil der Trilogie erscheint im Frühjahr 2017, das Veröffentlichungsdatum des dritten Teils ist noch unbekannt. Zur auch optischen und haptischen Verdeutlichung des Tryptichon-Konzeptes werden Verpackung und Artwork aller drei Teile so aufeinander abgestimmt sein, dass jeder Teil für sich steht und für sich existieren kann - dass der inhaltliche Zusammenhang und die umfassend Größe des Projektes aber auch durch eine gemeinsame Umverpackung der musikalischen Anthologie dargestellt werden.

Band: Andrew Paley

Ein Wanderer zwischen den Welten, so könnte man den amerikanischen Musiker Andrew Paley bezeichnen. Auf der einen Seite die schweißtreibende Post Punk Band The Static Age die vor allem in den Staaten erfolgreich veröffentlicht und tourt und auf der anderen Seite seine behutsam sich im Aufbau befindliche Solokarriere. Soweit keine neue Geschichte, solo aktive Frontmänner gibt es ja nicht wenige, den Unterschied aber macht die Musik. Weit weg von Post Punk oder Lagerfeuerromantik ist es die ungeheuer intime Atmosphäre seiner Songs und die Art sie zu präsentieren die hier die Solo Aktivitäten wirklich rechtfertigt. Dreht man die Anlage ein wenig auf, kann man die Songs und den Raum in dem sie entstanden sind quasi fühlen, man wähnt sich mittendrin, eine Nähe die man erstmal zulassen muss angesichts der auch textlichen Reife und Ausdruckskraft. Wollte man es auf Bekanntes runterbrechen, so könnte man als die sich ergänzenden Grundpfeiler Elliot Smith, Bon Iver oder Active Child nennen. Man könnte auch sagen, dass es nicht von ungefähr kommt, dass er mit Garrett Klahn (of Texas is the Reason), Karl Larsson (of Last Days of April), The Lion And The Wolf, Adam Rubenstein (of Chamberlain) tourte. Brüder im Geiste, was musikalische Freiheiten angeht.

Band: John K. Samson

Inspired by the search for connection and community, his hometown of Winnipeg, and our individual and collective struggles with addictions to drugs, screens, and fossil fuels, John K. Samson’s (Weakerthans) new full-length album, Winter Wheat, is a sprawling, masterful and timely work by a writer at the peak of his powers.

Several of the 15 songs, most directly Select All Delete, Vampire Alberta Blues, and VPW 13 Blues, are inspired by Neil Young’s enduring 1974 album On the Beach, and that record’s honest and unvarnished spirit is evident throughout Winter Wheat. Postdoc Blues follows an aging student struggling to maintain faith in the possibility of a better world, while Fellow Traveller is loosely based on the life of the British art critic and Soviet spy Anthony Blunt. 150 years of Winnipeg’s history is revealed in the two and a half minutes of Oldest Oak at Brookside, and Samson’s recurring characters Virtute the cat and her troubled human companion (from The Weakerthans songs Plea from a Cat Named Virtute and Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure) make their final appearances in 17th Street Treatment Centre and Virtute at Rest.

Band: Casey

Album: Love Is Not Enough

South Wales’ CASEY recently signed to Hassle Records and they’ve now announced the forthcoming release of their debut album. Titled ‘Love Is Not Enough’, the record will be released on 7th October and is available for preorder now, including two limited-quantity 12” vinyl colour variants and a number of bundle options.

The first track to be revealed from ‘Love Is Not Enough’ is the visceral ‘Ceremony’and features Michael McGough of Being As An Ocean providing guest vocals. According to Casey vocalist Tom Weaver, the composition “vents the frustration that accompanies realising an extensive period of emotional oppression and manipulation has been suffered under the guise of a sincere relationship. The opening verse describes how an unrequited affection was pursued in the belief that true love prevails. This only led into disappointment and disenfranchisement.”

The album as a whole is emotionally driven and its intense impetus leads to a cathartic listening experience. It’s a relatable collection of songs, the themes of which many a rock fan will no doubt be able to identify with. Their continuously expanding fanbase of loyal and devoted followers are integral to Casey’s story to date and only add weight to their music in the live arena.

Band: Deleyaman

Album: The Lover, The Stars & The Citadel

‘The lover, The stars & The citadel’ is the 7th album of Deleyaman due for release in November 2016. The album contains eleven tracks and includes a prestigious guest, Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) on two of the album's tracks, playing the Greek bouzouki (Escape) and programming the percussion tracks (Autumn Sun). The lyrics of the songs tackle the themes of love, solitude and revolt.

Deleyaman consists of singer and multi-instrumentalist Aret Madilian and Beatrice Valantin on vocals. Together they recorded and produced the album in the band's studio located in a rural coastal village of Normandy. Madilian recorded all of the instruments himself to attain total freedom to express his musicality. Both Aret and Beatrice are self-taught musicians coming from different cultural backgrounds. Aret's Greek-Armenian origins and California upbringing as well as Beatrice's French inspirations, both play a role in the alchemy of Deleyaman.

Their unique musical universe is rich in emotion. The driving force behind their music seems to be fueled by sincerity. A music that tends to counter the fast consumption culture and the speed of our digital age. A music that allows one to realize that time is the most valuable of our assets.

Two Deleyaman tracks will be a part of the soundtrack in the movie ‘Rouges sont les rêves’ directed by the French nouvelle vague actress and director Fanny Ardant, starring Gerard Depardieu, Emmanuelle Seigner, Paul Hamy. The film is planned for release in the early months of 2017.

Die US-Metalcore-Band THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA hat mit "Daughter" einen brandneuen Track inkl. Video veröffentlicht. Den Clip gibt es hier zu sehen:

Der Song stammt vom neuen Album "Transit Blues" welches am 07.10. via Rise Records veröffentlicht werden wird. Für die Produktion zeichnet sich Dan Korneff verantwortlich, der u.a. mit Crown The Empire und Motionless In White zusammenarbeitete.

Nach dem Ausstieg von Drummer Daniel Williams Anfang des Monats gibt es zudem nun Ersatz durch Giuseppe Antonio Capolupo (Haste The Day), der auch bereits im Video zu sehen ist und THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA ebenfalls bei den anstehenden Live-Shows unterstützen wird.

You know the curious, almost out-of-body feeling you sometimes get when you wake up in the middle of the night, where everything seems a bit fuzzy and you’re not sure if maybe you’re still dreaming? It’s a state Greta Morgan perpetually revisited during the second half of 2015, when she was writing and recording the new Springtime Carnivore album, Midnight Room. “I was on a really jagged sleep schedule,” says the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, describing the months during which she worked on the follow-up to her critically adored 2014 debut. “It was the first time I’d ever lived by myself, and there was this bizarre feeling at night of the house being so quiet and being so totally alone. And Midnight Room came out of that.”

Earlier in the year, Morgan went through one of those break-ups that completely topples your world. Though it was as amicable as those things can be, the twenty-eight year-old musician felt shattered. She began working on songs for Midnight Room during those strange waking interludes last summer, finding an abundance of beautiful melodies in the melancholy ether. “A lot of lyrics on the record are collaged or don’t necessarily make sense next to each other,” she says. “But I guess my whole headspace was like that for a few months. I felt like I couldn’t trust my memory completely — like i was space cadeting through the weird space between sleeping and dreaming and waking and reality.”

Aziza Brings Together Four Modern Jazz Masters With A Compellingly Singular Voice

Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke and Eric Harland unveil their newly-minted collaboration with self-titled debut out October 14, 2016 via Dare2 Records

Sure, you could call it a supergroup, but Aziza is much more than that. The quartet brings together four of the most insightful and influential voices in modern jazz to form a true band, one with a wholly distinct and intriguing sound of its own. Bassist Dave Holland, saxophonist Chris Potter, guitarist Lionel Loueke, and drummer Eric Harland are all renowned bandleaders in their own right, and together offer a staggering breadth of experience and depth of inspiration.

For the jazz aficionado, those four names alone will suffice to compel a listen to the band’s self-titled debut, due out October 16, 2016, on Holland’s Dare2 Records imprint, while the spectrum of emotion and diversity of approach in the music will spur obsessive repeats.

Holland is a universally respected, Grammy-winning 2017 NEA Jazz Master inductee whose storied career includes work with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Gary Burton and John McLaughlin, as well as his own groups from Circle to Prism.

Band: Ludvig Moon

Ludvig Moon entstand 2012 als Solo-Act von Anders Magnor Killerud, ehemals Mitglied der Grammy-prämierten Band “Team Me" aus Norwegen. Mittlerweile besteht Ludvig Moon aus sechs warmherzigen Freunden und emotionalen Altrockern. Inspiriert von Künstlern wie Sufjan Stevens, den Flaming Lips und Radiohead mixt die Band aus Oslo Melancholie mit positiven Vibes. Diese pulsierende Mischung wurde kürzlich vom britischen Musikblog The Line Of Best Fit als ?Small Scale Epic“ bezeichnet.

Bittet man die Band, ihr erstes Album in ein paar Worten zu beschreiben, klingt das so: «We don’t have one sole concept through the whole album, it isn’t a rock opera or something, but its definitely some recurring themes through the album. Lost love, depression, growing up and family. Themes that also shines through in the title and the cover art as well. The title is tightly intertwined with the cover art.»

Band: Rodrigo Leao & Scott Matthew

Rodrigo Leão und Scott Matthew begegneten sich erstmals bei den Aufnahmen zu A Montanha Mágica (The Magic Mountain), Leão’s Album von 2011. Matthew verlieh dem Song “Terrible Dawn” seine ganz eigene Note und so begleitete er den Portugiesen anschließend bei einigen seiner Konzerte in Portugal und Spanien. Leão, der immer schon ein begeisterter Musiker war, arbeitete u.a. mit Größen wie Beth Gibbons von Portishead oder der brasilianischen Sängerin Adriana Calcanhoto zusammen, aber “Terrible Dawn” als auch “Incomplete” von 2013 zeigen, dass zwischen diesen beiden Künstlern eine ganz besondere Verbindung existiert.

Ein portugiesischer Komponist und ein Sänger aus Australien, der in New York lebt. Weite Wege, doch so nah. Ein Erfinder von unfassbaren Melodien und ein in eigenen Worten “quiet noise maker”. Eigentlich ist es unmöglich, einem so exotischen Duo zu widerstehen. Scott und Rodrigo arbeiteten im Stillen zusammen, beide haben einen ausgebuchten Terminkalender: Leão, einst Gründer der protugiesischen Legende Madredeus, als Komponist für Filmsoundtracks zu anspruchsvollen Kassenschlagern wie u.a The Butler oder La Cage Dorée und Matthew, der seine eigene, erfolgreiche Solokarriere verfolgt, die mittlerweile 5 Alben und diverse Beiträge zu Soundtracks von Filmen wie u.a. Shortbus (John Cameron Mitchell) umfasst. Trotzdem schafften sie es Melodien, Texte und Ideen zu entwickeln und auszutauschen. Sie trafen sich immer wieder, schickten sich gegenseitig Demoaufnahmen, die in einem gemeinsamen Album gipfelten, das in großer Besetzung im Frühjahr 2016 in Lissabon aufgenommen wurde: Rodrigo zeigt sich für die Kompositionen und die Produktion, Scott für die Texte, Melodien und Vocals verantwortlich. Wer diese zwei Musiker schon einmal zusammen auf der Bühne erlebt hat, weiß, wie schön diese Zusammenarbeit klingen kann.

With Small Town Water Tower (out Oct 7/2016 Tin Angel Records) mercurial singer-songwriter John Southworth has countered Niagara’s much-lauded melancholia with a revitalizing, eerily deceptive pop album. Fully embracing modern 21st century recording techniques, Southworth has transformed his uniquely antiquated style, somehow bridging the vast, impenetrable gulf between Tame Impala and Burt Bacharach to forge a new fluid and cohesive stamp - part future shock, part ghost - at once strangely contemporary and anachronistic.

Merging disparate sources has consistently been a signature of the UK-born, Canadian-raised songwriter. Now, combined with a lyrical view equal parts surreal and realist, this singular trademark glows irrepressibly. “I’m not sure exactly what it is I’ve made,” says John, “some kind of conversation between the new and old world I hope.” Expressing an unsettled, dreamlike vision of lives in crisis, amidst species and eras fast disappearing, Small Town Water Tower (his 10th full-length, produced by Derek Hoffman) sounds like nothing in Southworth’s previous canon, nor in the current pop-sphere - a dizzying, cinematic and brilliantly crafted event.

Joel Gibb is the lead singer, songwriter and choir captain of the band of folk art rockers The Hidden Cameras. Since forming in Toronto in 2001, Gibb and his gang of musical provocateurs have created music and live performances legendary for their raucous celebration of freedom, sexuality and sound.

Home on Native Land marks the beginning of new chapter for Gibb and The Hidden Cameras. It’s an ode to the country of Gibb’s birth and a return to Canadian soil physically and philosophically. Leaving adolescence behind, The Hidden Cameras pick up and head west to commune with musical ancestors and explore with the gentle folk sounds of the Canadian countryside. Gibb invokes the spirit of the lonesome cowboy as he plumbs the depths of musical memory and delivers an album of toe-tapping rhythms, twang and heartbreak.

With the first line of Home on Native Land, Gibb announces a departure. "I burned everything I own, left it in a pile smoldering,” begins “Day I Left Home.” He leads The Hidden Cameras on a search for something simpler, more beautiful and pure (“Down on knees, digging out the weeds, of all the years”), playing with genre and experimenting with old sounds.

Jez Dior trat erstmals 2013 mit seinen Singles “Candles” und “Love Me To Death” ins Rampenlicht. Seine neuste Single “Loved You First” ist ein perfekter Hybrid aus Urban und Pop, während “Long Sun” mit seinem klagenden Pianointro, klassischem HipHop-Beat und dem weiblichen Hintergrundgesang eher an Eminems ?Stan“ erinnert.

Um einen Kontrast zu schaffen, beruft sich “Separate” auf Jez Grunge-Wurzeln mit einem Gitarrenriff, das förmlich explodiert und in einen double-time Trap Hop Beat mündet. Die vorletzte Single ?Forever“ (featuring Elijah Blake) ist dagegen die vermutlich poppigste Nummer, die Jez bisher produziert hat, nicht zuletzt durch das Zusammenspiel von Elijahs melodischer Stimme mit Jez markantem Rapstil, begleitet durch einen HipHop-Beat mit orchestralen Stilmitteln. Cody isn’t an album that changed everything for Joyce Manor, but Joyce Manor had to change a bit to make their album Cody. Their last album Never Hungover Again–their debut for Epitaph after two previous full-lengths for other labels—was recorded in just ten days, at that point the longest they’d ever been able to spend on an album. For Cody, however, they’d camp out in the studio for two months with producer Rob Schnapf, credited on classics by Elliot Smith, Guided By Voices, Saves The Day and Rancid, all in the Joyce Manor record collections, of course. With Schnapf’s help, they’d explore deeper arrangements, new pre-production techniques, and different ways of working both together and with someone else, says guitarist and singer Barry Johnson: “It was the first time we really used the studio to our advantage. I felt like I could get a better grasp on what we could do. We always recorded like a punk band—go in and lay ‘em down! Just get good takes! And this time we tried a lot more.”

So think of Cody as the moment where a pop-punk band pushes past just simple pop and punk—when the first album something-to-prove anxieties are long since conquered and it’s time for something true as well as something new. If Never Hungover Again was the sound of the last long weekend of summer, that precipice-moment plunge into the uncertain future, then Cody is an album for a new year’s day: a mile-marker, a just-past-halfway point in winter, a moment for clarity and experience and purpose to all be renewed.

“The whole winter, the temperature was in the low teens. Utterly freezing,” says Every Time I Die’s frontman Keith Buckley regarding the months that yielded their eighth full-length album. Such is the price you pay for living in Buffalo, NY. Granted, the weather seems like a rather mundane topic for the normally acerbic and irreverent vocalist, but even the most acid-tongued hardcore band must have their sociable side, right? But Buckley and his cohorts Jordan Buckley (guitar), Andy Williams (guitar), Daniel Davison (drums), and Steve Micciche (bass) aren’t so hard up for pathos at this point that they’re grumbling about the temperature outside. If anything, Low Teens is their most poignant and impassioned album in a career full of sardonic illuminations and pit-inciting fervor.

Lyrical motifs aside, other big changes were afoot during that Buffalo winter. From a sonic standpoint, the most crucial development was writing with new drummer Daniel Davison. Fans of Every Time I Die’s caustic combination of savage metallic hardcore and pentatonic riff-laden classic rock will not be disappointed by Low Teens’ thrash attacks and Southern-boogie breakdowns. But Davison’s heft, dexterity, and creativity pushed the band forward. “Daniel joined and not only further unlocked Andy and Jordan and Steve's potential but put such a unique force behind the band's dynamic,” Buckley says of his new bandmate. “I know that everything that has happened is necessary for what is presently happening but, man, to think about what the band might have been like if we had him sooner—private jets, shows on the damn moon.” You can hear this new energy on “Glitches”, which blazes with the kind of raw basement hardcore that originally catalyzed the group, but rages with a pinpoint accuracy beyond any meager hardcore band’s reach. “C++” marries desert rock croons, Unbroken’s metallic riffage, and a pile-driving chorus into a relentless hook-laden anthem. “The Coin Has A Say” operates as an extremity test, with every gear-shift somehow pushing the band into inexplicably heavier territories. Yes, Every Time I Die has always juggled hardcore urgency, metal brutalism, and rock melodies, but never has it felt this instinctive or this vicious.

Die Genregrenzen des Postrock hatten sie bereits mit dem letzten Album ?In Passage“ hinter sich gelassen, waren poppiger geworden, fokussierter. Die neuen Songs sollten diese Entwicklung weiterführen, sollten moderner, ja elektronischer klingen. ?Die letzten Alben hatten wir jeweils in ein paar Tagen live eingespielt. Für die neuen Songs wäre das nicht der richtige Weg gewesen“, ist sich Claes sicher. Also beschlossen Immanu El zum ersten Mal in ihrer Karriere einen Produzenten damit zu beauftragen, ihnen zu helfen, ihre Vision für ?Hibernation“ auszuarbeiten. Auf der Wunschliste für den Job ganz oben stand Johan Eckeborn, der sich zuletzt für seine Arbeit mit Jonathan Johansson und dessen Album ?Lebensraum!“ eine Grammy-Nominierung abgeholt hatte. Mit ihm an Bord nahm die Arbeit an ?Hibernation“ endlich Fahrt auf. ?Weeks turn to months, turn to years / We hibernate wide awake“ (Winter Solstice)

Tatsächlich sind die neuen Immanu-El-Songs fokussierter als je zuvor. Auf den letzten Alben deutete die Band oft nur an, wie viel Pop in ihnen steckt und schmückte die Melodien und Refrains geschickt mit ausladenden Arrangements aus. Die neuen Songs wie ?Voices“, ?Winter Solstice“ und ?Omega“ kommen dagegen schnell auf den Punkt und setzen ihre fast schon radiotauglichen Refrains gekonnt in Szene. Der Versuchung, ihre Songs dramaturgisch auszuschmücken, haben Immanu El diesmal ganz bewusst widerstanden. Eine mutige Entscheidung, denn offenbaren simple Pop-Strukturen schnell Schwächen im Songwriting. Nicht so bei ?Hibernation“. Dazu klingen die Schweden trotz der musikalischen Entwicklung immer noch ganz wie sie selbst. Sänger Claes gibt sich bescheiden: ?Wir wollten uns weiterentwickeln aber natürlich auch nicht wieder bei null anfangen“, erklärt er. Er sieht in der Platte ?vor allem eine Trotzreaktion auf das, was uns in den letzten Jahren aufgehalten hat. Wir waren uns alle einig, dass wir jetzt erst recht ein Album aufnehmen wollten, das uns selber umhaut!“

Alternative rock band Too Close To Touch announce ?Haven’t Been Myself“, their anticipated sophomore album set to be released on September 23rd.

The Lexington, Kentucky band Too Close To Touch (vocalist Keaton Pierce, guitarists Mason Marble and Thomas Kidd, bassist Travis Moore, and drummer Kenneth Downey) recorded Haven’t Been Myself with producer Erik Ron (Issues, Set It Off) in his North Hollywood, CA studio. “I was in a really dark place and wanted to make [the album] as cathartic as possible. This album was a pretty tough one to write, but we all gave it everything we have and didn’t hold back. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” says Pierce. Haven’t Been Myself is the follow-up to 2015’s Nerve Endings.

Too Close to Touch is on the Vans Warped Tour through August 13 in Portland, Oregon. Since the band’s formation in 2013, the band has earned over 3 million+ YouTube views, 7 million+ album streams, countless live shows, and now an APMA award for Best Underground Band, it is clear that Too Close To Touch have put in the work and are ready to take on the world.
